Rocky Mount, NC – The Greensboro College Men's Basketball team returned to action Sunday afternoon in their second game of the Roger Taylor Invitational, as they faced USCAA member and #8 nationally ranked Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The Pride were looking to finish the weekend undefeated but they would first have to contend with a stingy Mustangs team. In the end though, Greensboro would move to 4-2 on the year with the 97-79 win.
Mid-Atlantic Christian controlled the first 10 minutes of the first half and kept the lead, until Junior
Amillia Huggins (Greensbro, NC) would put the Pride ahead for the first time, 23-22, after hitting two free throws. However, the Mustangs did not back down and recaptured the lead, going up by four points, 30-26. With 4:09 remaining in the half, Sophomore
Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) got out on the fast break and finished it with a dunk, tying the game again, 30-30. Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) gave Greensboro the lead again when he drained a three-pointer and they would not relinquish it, allowing the Pride to head into the locker room with a seven-point advantage, 42-35.
Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) got things started in the second half, with a layup in the paint and on the next possession he followed that up with a three-point basket and then a layup, giving Greensboro its first double digit lead, 49-35. The next five points, courtesy of Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) pushed the advantage to 18 points, and then Freshman
Griffin Powell (Greensboro, NC) would come off the bench to score two straight baskets, helping the Pride finish off the game with the victory, 97-79.
Wright led the Pride with 19 points and Pruett finished with 12 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Boulware and Junior
Erik Alvey (Durham, NC) each added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. In addition, Wright and Boulware were named to the All-Tournament Team. Greensboro will return to action on Tuesday, December 6
th as they travel to Tennessee to face Maryville College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
