Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pride defeats Huntingdon, 87-63, in first game of the Roger Taylor Invitational

Rocky Mount, NC – The Greensboro College Men's Basketball team opened up the Roger Taylor Invitational on Friday night as they faced Huntingdon College in their first of two games this weekend.  Coach Cantamessa's team was looking to get above the .500 mark and thanks to solid performances on both sides of the court, the Pride had one of their best performances of the season, coming away with the win, 87-63.

Senior Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) got things started, as the first half began, draining a three-pointer for the quick 3-0 lead.  The Hawks, however, would answer with a three-pointer of their own to tie the game  The game would not stay tied for long, as Juniors Amillia Huggnis (Greensboro, NC), Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) and Cassius Gary (Gatesville, NC) converted baskets, giving Greensboro the six-point advantage.  The Pride pushed their lead to double digits after Junior Mason Sergi (Ashburn, VA) hit a three-pointer and a few possessions later, Junior Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) put his team up by 20-points on a three-pointer of his own.  Pruett would continue to score and as the half ended, Greensboro found themselves leading by a score of 45-24.

In the second half, the Pride were able to push their lead to 23-points, 50-27, when Boulware drained another Greensboro three-pointer.  While Huntingdon tried to cut into the advantage, the Pride defense tightened up, which allowed Junior Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL), Wright and Boulware to continue to convert on the offensive end of the court.  A Sophomore Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) dunk increased the lead, once again, to over 20 points and the Pride never looked back as they would came away with the win over the Hawks, 87-63.

Boulware finished the night with a team high 14 points, while Pruett and Thompson each chipped in with 13 points.  Thompson also had three blocked shots, while the team, as a whole, combined for 25 rebounds and 16 steals, to move to 3-2 on the season  Greensboro will return to action in the Roger Invitational on Sunday as they face the #8 ranked team in the USCAA, Mid-Atlantic Christian.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
