Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro College Men's Basketball team did not have to travel far for their game Saturday, as they faced Guilford College in a crosstown match-up between the two schools. While they are in different conferences, the schools are no strangers to each other. However, it was a tough night for the Pride, as they would fall by a score of 88-47.
Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) put Greensboro on the board to start the first half and that was followed by a three-pointer from Senior
Ty Hill ( Shallotte, NC), giving the Pride the early 5-0 advantage. After a Quacker's basket, Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) hit a jumper to regain the five-point lead, but Guilford would begin to chip away at it and eventually go ahead 18-12. A basket by Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) pulled Greensboro to within one point, but Guilford found success on the offensive side of the ball and were able to push their advantage to 15 points, with 1:19 remaining in the half. As both teams headed to the locker room, the Pride found themselves trailing by a score of 36-20.
The Quakers came out in the second half and increased their lead to 25 points and unfortunately, did not let up. Despite baskets from Sophomore
Trajan Weatherspoon (Hinesville, GA) and Pruett, Greensboro fell behind 59-25. Brown, Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) and Wright were able to get things going offensively, mid-way through the half, but it was not enough, as Guilford controlled the rest of the game. As the horn sounded, the Pride would fall to the crosstown Quakers, 88-47.
Boulware, Pruett and Weatherspoon each finished the game with 8 points, while Hill led the team with 7 rebounds. Greensboro will now travel south to Saint Petersburg, FlL where they will face Eckerd College on December 14th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
