Box Score St. Petersburg, FL - A few years agao, Greensboro College Head Men's Basketball,
Jim Cantamessa and Eckerd College Head Men's Basketball Coach, Bryan Galuski walked the same sideline together in Hanes Gymnasium. However, today they stood on different sides of the court, as the Pride made a trip to the Sunshine State for an exhibition with Coach Galuski and his Division II Tritons.
Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) scored the first five points of the first half, for the early 5-0 lead, but Eckerd would tie things up after scoring five of their own. However, Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) proceded to score eight straight points, followed by a Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) basket, putting Greensboro ahead, 18-11. After an Eckerd score, Pruett would drain a jumper to keep the lead at seven points, but with 7:34 reaming in the half, the Tritons were able to tie the game at 20-20 and eventually take a five point advantage. However, as the half was coming to an end, a jumper by Junior
Mason Sergi (Ashburn, Va) and five points from Wright, tied the game as the teams headed to the locker room, 33-33.
As the second half began, Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) took a pass in the paint to convert a driving layup, putting the Pride up by two points, 35-33. A Wright jumper off of a turnover, increased the lead to four points, however, Eckerd, once again, was able to tie the game. For the next few minutes, both teams would go back and forth taking over the lead, until Greensboro created a turnover, allowing Pruett to take an overhead pass from Sergi to drain a three-pointer from the wing. That lead would not last, as the Triton's went on a 8-0 run to take a 59-51 advantage. Two free throws by Pruett stopped the run, cutting the lead to 59-53. Eckerd would keep the advantage but after a Wright breakaway dunk and two free throws from Boulware, the Pride were able to take back the lead 66-65. Unfortunately, the Tritons would go back in front and as the buzzer sounded, Greensboro fell by a final score of 71-66.
Wright finished the game with 26 points and 5 steals, while Boulware and Pruett added 10 points a piece. In addition, Boulware grabbed a team high 8 rebounds to go along with a blocked shot. Greensboro will have a Christmas break and then return to action on December 29th and 30th as they participate in the Guilford College Christmas Invite, where they will face Centre College and Bridgewater State University.
