Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pride Complete Fourth Quarter Comeback To Defeat Methodist On The Road, 69-65.

Fayetteville, NC – One Wednesday night the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team opened up USA South Conference play on the road as they faced Methodist University.  The two schools are no strangers to each other as the Pride leads the overall series 35-14, and both teams were off to solid start this season.  It would take a strong fourth quarter comeback for Greensboro to secure the road victory and that is just what they did, earning the hard fought win 69-65.

The Monarchs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to start the first quarter, but a layup by Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) and a three-pointer from fellow Senior Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) put the Pride in front by one.  After some solid defensive play, another basket by Legette gave the Pride a four-point advantage and they continued to stay ahead after a Junior Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) jumper with 1:39 remaining.  Greensboro would keep the lead as the quarter ended, 18-14.

A Sophomore Audrey Jennings' (Elkin, NC) layup gave the Pride an eight-point advantage but Methodist would go on a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to only two points, early in the second quarter.  However, Greensboro started a run of their own, thanks to baskets from Moore, heading into the media timeout.  After the timeout, Moore converted one of two free throws giving the Pride their largest lead of the game, 28-20.  The Monarchs were able to cut into the advantage a little, but as the teams headed to the locker room, Greensboro would hold a five point lead, 33-28.

The third quarter saw the Pride increase their advantage to nine points after a Mason fast break layup, but Methodist slowly began to climb back into the game.  At the 4:29 mark, the game was suddenly tied and then the Monarchs eventually pulled ahead by seven points, 47-40.  They would increase it to a game high nine-point advantage, until Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) converted two free throws, ending the quarter with the Pride trailing by a score of 52-45.

Jennings wasted no time as the fourth quarter began, making a driving layup, followed by a three-pointer on the next possession, to pull Greensboro to within two points, 52-50.  She would then convert two free throws and the game was, once again, tied.  A three-pointer from Senior Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) eventually put the Pride up by seven points and that is when Moore would take control of the game, scoring three baskets in a row, in addition to the front end of a one-n-one, keeping Greensboro ahead for good.  As the horn sounded, the Pride would improve their overall record to 3-1, 1-0 in the USA South, defeating Methodist 69-65.

Moore finished the night with a game high 21 points to go along with her 9 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.  Legette added 15 points and 4 steals, while Jennings had 13 points, followed by Mason with 10 points.  Palmore led the Pride with double digit rebounds, pulling down a total of 13.  Greensboro will be back in action on Saturday as they host #5 ranked Christopher Newport at Hanes Gymnasium.  It will also be Alumni Day, as over 30 former players will be in attendance and recognized during a halftime ceremony.  Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 2:00pm.
