Greensboro, NC – While most people were getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow, the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team had something else on their plate, as they hosted Ferrum College on Wednesday for a 2:00pm match-up in Hanes Gymnasium. The Panthers were the fourth straight ODAC team the Pride had faced to start the season and, as the previous three games had been, it was a back and forth, physical game with Greensboro earning the come from behind win, 63-59
The Pride came out of the gate fast pushing the ball up the court, trying to take advantage of their speed. Ferrum would take an early 2-0 lead but a three-pointer from Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) put Greensboro in front and eventually a Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) jumper doubled up the score at 12-6. The Panthers would go on a 10-0 run to reclaim the advantage 16-12, midway through the first half. They maintained their lead until a basket by Wright tied things up at 20-20. Unfortunately, that did not last long as Ferrum went on another run, this time 8-0, to finish the half and when they horn sounded the Pride would head to the locker room trailing by a score of 30-25.
For the first five minutes of the second half, the Panthers controlled the game, until Wright converted a fast break layup tying things up at 39-39. Ferrum would begin to have success again on the offensive side of the ball and with 6:23 left in the game, they had a comfortable nine point lead. However, that is when Greensboro began their comeback as Sophomore
Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) drove in for a layup to start chipping away at the deficit. Wright pulled the Pride to within one-point, 58-57 and then two clutch free throws by Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) gave Greensboro the lead for the first time since the first half. With only 15 seconds remaining in the game, Senior
Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC) stepped to the line to seal the game and send the crowd home happy, 62-59.
Wright led the Pride, finishing the game with 17 points, to go along with his 5 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. Hill also scored in double figures, 10 points, while Brown pulled down a game high 10 rebounds. Greensboro evens up their record at 2-2 and will enjoy Thanksgiving before they head down the street on Saturday, November 26
