Greensboro, NC – Tuesday night the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team returned to Hanes Gymnasium as they hosted Averett University, which was their third straight ODAC opponent this season. Coming off of two highly competitive games, the Pride knew the Cougars would be the same. While it was a fast paced and physical game of runs, the visitors from Averett ultimately came away with the four-point win, 68-64.
Greensboro came out in the first half clicking offensively, with Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) helping the Pride jump out to a 13-2 lead. A layup from Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) at the 10:09 mark, pushed the Greensboro advantage to 22-9, but after that basket the Cougars began to go on a run, pulling all the way to within one-point. They would eventually take a three-point lead, with just a minute remaining in the half, until Boulware drove into the paint, hitting a layup which sent the Pride into the locker room with the lead, 32-31.
The beginning of the second half saw Averett retake the advantage, going up by eight points, 44-36. They would take a double-digit lead, but a layup by Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) slowed down the momentum, allowing Greensboro to get back in the game. The lead was cut to two points after Junior
Amillia Huggins (Greensboro, NC) drained an outside shot. However, every time the Pride got close, the Cougars seemed to have an answer. They increased their lead to 67-60, with under a minute left in the game, and despite a few made free throws from Wright, Greensboro would fall 68-64.
Wright finished the game with a team high 16 points, followed by Boulware who added 13 points, while Brown grabbed a total of 10 rebounds. The Pride will return to action next week, when they welcome Ferrum College to Hanes Gymnasium for a pre-thanksgiving game. The two teams will tip-off on Wednesday, November 23
rd beginning at 2:00pm.
