Lynchburg, VA – The Greensboro Men's Basketball team hit the road for the first time in the young season, as they traveled to Randolph College to face their second ODAC opponent in a row. Saturday's game would be a tale of two half's as both teams seized momentum. However a strong second half comeback by the Pride fell just short in the last few seconds, as they suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Wildcats, 87-83.
The start of the first half saw Randolph jump out to a quick 9-2 lead, until Sophomore
Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) drove in for a layup, was fouled and converted the 3-point play to trim the lead to four points. After trading baskets, Randolph proceeded to go on another run grabbing a double digit advantage, 19-8, midway through the half. Eventually Greensboro would fall behind by 15 points, but would slowly get it to but under 10 points when Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) converted a 3-pointer to pull to within 30-22. However, that is as close as the Pride would get in the half, as the Wildcats headed to the locker with the lead, 47-31.
Randolph came out in the second half and continued to control the offensive side of the ball, until Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) hit two free throws to pull the Pride to with to within eight points, 63-55. A layup by Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) trimmed the lead to six points, but once again the Wildcats would go on run. Trailing, 80-64, Greensboro's offense began to come alive and a layup by Pruett cut the lead in half, 80-72. A few plays later Pruett would score again, this time a 3-pointer, to pull Pride to within five points. They would pull to within two points when Boulware drove in for a layup, with only 32 seconds remaining in the game. Unfortunately, Randolph was able to convert free throws in the last remaining seconds and Greensboro would fall to the Wildcats by a final score of 87-83.
Pruett led the Pride with 23 points (his second game in a row over 20 points) to go along with 3 steals, while Boulware added 17 points and a game high 10 rebounds. In addition, Wright added 14 points and Thompson chipped in with 13 points. Greensboro will return to action this Tuesday, November 15
