Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Women's Volleyball team ventured to Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday afternoon to face the Avenging Angels of Meredith College and the Monarchs of Methodist University for a USA South Conference Tri-Match. The Pride would head home with a split, dropping the first match 3-0 to Meredith College and wrapping up the evening with a 3-2 win against the Monarchs.

Greensboro (17-11, 11-4 USAS) vs Meredith College (18-10, 10-5 USAS)
In the first match against Meredith College,
Jaylyn Templeton led the way for the Pride with 23 assists, 14 digs and 2 kills.
Payton Shiflet contributed 9 digs on the afternoon along with
Lauren Mantel's team-high 16 digs.
Set 1 saw a lot of back-and-forth action as the Pride and the Avenging Angels traded spurts. The Pride would eventually force the set to an even 25-25 on a service error by Meredith's Lillie Davis. Meredith would then gather themselves and go on to a three-point rally to take set 1, 29-27.
Despite a couple of timely kills from
Jade Vrobel, set 2 saw the Avenging Angels keep the momentum and challenge the Pride on multiple runs eventually taking the set, 25-15. Â
Set 3 saw more back-and-forth from each of the squads. The power from Shiflet and timely service errors from Meredith, wouldn't be enough for the Pride as the Avenging Angels took set 3, 25-21.

Greensboro (17-11, 11-4 USAS) vs Methodist University (10-15, 5-10 USAS)
The Pride would hit the reset button and take down a tough Monarch squad for the night cap. Leading the way for the Pride would be freshman,
Payton Shiflet with 14 kills and 11 digs.
Kelci Brooks added an impressive 19 kills and
Krista Brantley contributed 11 kills, respectively.
Jaylyn Templeton had an outstanding 41 assists and
Lauren Mantel led the way with 25 digs.
Set 1 saw the Pride fall behind 8-13 before going on a five-point run to bring the set to an even 13-13. Both teams would exchange the next several points before the Pride hit the gas, going on a five-point rally and taking set 1, 25-21.
The Monarchs would come out ready in set 2 and take it 25-23 despite timely kills from the Pride front line.
Bouncing back in set 3, the Pride would take the momentum from the Monarchs with a couple of early set kills from
Jade Vrobel and
Kantley McKown. The Pride wouldn't let the trading of points defeat them as they took set 3, 25-22.
The fourth set would be the most challenging set for the Pride thus far, seeing a ton of action and the end result would be extremely high scoring. Â Both teams would trade a couple of five-point rallies before settling into more back-and-forth action as the Monarchs would favor. The scoreboard would read a whopping 34-36 before heading into the finale.
The fifth and final set would seal the deal for the Pride with a couple costly errors from the Monarchs as the Pride ran away with set 5, 16-14.
The Pride will next host the Knights of Southern Virginia in Hanes Gym on Wednesday, October 25
th at 5:00PM.
