Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Snares a Pair of Victories on the Road

Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Volleyball Team is becoming accustomed to being the favorite each and every match they play. On Friday afternoon, Head Coach Kevin Troup would embark on an important trip to Rocky Mount to play a pair of USA South Athletic Conference matches with opponents including Pfeiffer University and home standing North Carolina Wesleyan University.

The afternoon game would pit the Pride against the Pfeiffer University Falcons. On September 23rd , the Falcons traveled to the historic Hanes Gymnasium and surprised the Pride 3 sets to 2 sets. But since that defeat, the Pride have gone 6-2, and the Falcons would be facing a team that was carrying a swagger and minds set on revenge. On this afternoon, the Pride would have no issues as they would dominate the Falcons by set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-16.

The finale for the Pride would put them against North Carolina Wesleyan. Last time out against the Bishops the Pride blanked them by a 3-0 set score. However, every game was tight so this would be a squad not to overlook. But again, the maturity would show as they would handle the Bishops in 4 sets. Despite a hiccup in Set 2, the Pride would coast by scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-21 and 25-16. Even thought sets 1 and 3 looked relatively tight, a close examination of the boxscore would reveal the Pride took comfortable leads and were never truly threatened. The successful back to-back victories would push the Pride's overall record to 15-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference. The Pride have won four straight matches.

GC Head Coach Kevin Troup had these comments on the two big conference wins: "In the first match we played against a very disciplined Pfeiffer team. They got us at home the first meeting, but we were able take them out of their routine with tough serves. Against N.C. Wesleyan, we got out to a quick start, but the Bishops battled back. They went on a run in the second set. We were again able to right the ship late in the second and that momentum carried over to the 3 rd and 4 th sets. Honestly serving was the key as I think we had 25 aces and only 6 errors in those 2 matches."

The Greensboro College Volleyball Team will hit the hardwood again on Tuesday, October 18th, at 6:00PM when visiting Brevard College.
