Two first half goals propelled the women's soccer team as it won its home opener over Johnson & Wales University.
Both teams began the match exchanging possession near midfield until Greensboro (1-1) found the back of the net with a goal from Logan Schanbl. Schanbl was able to score as the ball deflected off the goalie from a shot from
Madi Bettencourt.
The Pride held the lead for 17 minutes until the 28th minute when the Wildcats (0-1) scored on a header.
Greensboro put three shots on goal but were stopped by J&W goalie, Leah Bargaw. However,
Taylor Harrison was able to guide one in the net after Bargaw was unable to cleanly control the ball. The Pride held that 2-1 lead going into the half.
The second half was dominated by the Pride as they held a majority of the possession and out shot J&W 10-0. Greensboro held on for the 2-1 win.
The Pride had eight shots on goal compared to just one for the Wildcats. The hosts also had eight corners while J&W had two.
Greensboro travels to face Ferrum College on Tuesday, September 7. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
