The Greensboro College men's soccer team welcomed crosstown rivals, Guilford College, to Pride Field. Despite a last minute goal, the Pride fell in overtime, 3-2.
Jordy Briceno got Greensboro (2-6) on the board in the fourth minute off a pass from
William Curry. The score remained this way till the halftime horn sounded.
In the second half, Guilford (5-1) evened the game in the 53rd minute.
A few moments later,
Alan Linares was sent off the field after receiving his second yellow of the game.
The Quakers claimed a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute. Unfortunately the worse was not over yet as
Alexander Bishop also received his second yellow and was sent off, just leaving nine players left for the Pride.
However, Greensboro did not let that hold the team back. The Green and White began to pressure the visitors and it led to success. With 39 seconds to go in regulation, Curry found his was to a ball in the box after a pass from
Darli Mihindou to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Guilford kept control and scored just over four minutes left in the first overtime to win 3-2.
The Pride welcome Piedmont University on Sunday, September 19. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
