The Greensboro College men's soccer faced the Eastern Mennonite Royals at the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The Pride defeated the Royals, 5-1.
Both teams had chances in the first half but both defenses and goalies stood tall.
Jordy Briceno scored his fourth goal of the season off a pass from
Darli Mihindou to give Greensboro (1-4) the lead.
The Pride held onto the lead as both teams headed to their respective locker rooms.
Just 1:05 into the second half,
William Curry doubled the advantage with an assist from
Alan Linares.
Over two minutes late, Eastern Mennonite (0-4) cut the deficit with a goal from Ford DeVault. However, the scoring ended there for the Royals.
Parker Spesock increased the GC lead back to two goals in the 63rd minute as Briceno assisted on the score.
Jovan Cotton added another goal in the 72nd before
Merced Mendez Flores scored the final goal under two minutes later. The Pride won by the four-goal difference.
Elmer Martinez made three saves in the win while GC out shot EMU, 14-6.Â
Greensboro faces the hosts, Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, September 12 to conclude the trip. First kick is at 4:30 p.m.
