On second down, Loughry found Griggs for the 29-yard score at the 9:12 mark in the second. Zach Allman made the point after to pull the Pride within two (9-7).

The Monarch's Praylow took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to put the visitors ahead by nine once more.

GC's offense found a rhythm on its next drive with passing plays of 11, 14, 25 and 13 yards. A delay of game penalty on second-and-goal eventually led to a 31-yard field goal attempt by Allman. The kick bounced off the left upright as Methodist took over at the 20-yard line.

Both teams went three-and-out on their next drives as the Monarchs took over from their 11-yard line with 3:06 left in the first half. They used 10 plays and went 89 yards in 2:25 when Brandon Bullins found Wade Thomas for the 18-yard score to go ahead 23-7.
