The Greensboro College football team traveled to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to face the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan. The Pride fell to the Bishops, 21-0.
Greensboro (0-5, 0-3) received the opening kickoff and unfortunately went three-and-out. The Pride's punt on fourth down was blocked and setup North Carolina Wesleyan (3-3, 3-1) at the Greensboro 24 yardline.
The Battling Bishops struggled to move the ball against the GC defense. N.C. Wesleyan used seven plays to gain 14 yards as Rafa Niederleyt made a 27-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
On its ensuing drive, Greensboro went three-and-out as the Bishops took over with 9:14 remaining in the first quarter.
N.C. Wesleyan drove 72 yards over 10 plays as the drive was capped off 17-yard pass from Chaz Hirsch to Tyler Watson for the score. The point after was good to increase the lead to 10.
Neither squad had any success over the next possessions. The Pride took over at its own 47 with 9:03 to go in the first half. Greensboro was faced with a third and four but were unsuccessful. The snap on the ensuing punt sailed over
Zach Allman's head and rolled through the endzone for a safety. The Bishops led 12-0 with 7:48 to go in the second half.
The hosts regained the possession looked to add to its lead. After gaining two first downs, N.C. Wesleyan failed to continue its drive as the GC defense forced a turnover on downs.
Greensboro took over at its own 46 with 4:46 to go in the half. After gaining a first down the Pride began to head in the wrong direction. On third and 14, the offense fumbled the ball as the Bishops recovered the loose ball.
Both sides were unable to add any points to board as the halftime horn sounded. N.C. Wesleyan held a 12-0 lead.
The third quarter was a draw as neither side were able to score any points. In the fourth, the Bishops'Â Hirsch found Kalab Logan for the score to end an eight-play, 40 yard drive to lead 19-0 with 9:41 to go in regulation.
After punts from each team, Greensboro took over at the GC 21 with 5:40 remaining. A holding penalty set the offense back as it struggled to move the ball. On third down, the snap rolled into the endzone as it was pushed out of bounds for another safety.Â
N.C. Wesleyan ran out the clock on its possession for the 21-0 victory.
The Bishops out gained the Pride 315-77 and forced GC to only go 5-15 on third down conversions.
Greensboro faces Southern Virginia University on Saturday, October 16 in Buena Vista, Virginia. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
