Pride Host Huntingdon

The Greensboro College football team faced Huntingdon College in a USA South Athletic matchup. The Pride fell to the Hawks, 42-3.

Huntingdon (5-2, 5-0) received the opening kickoff and used an eight-play, 61 yard drive to take a 7-0 lead. Seven of the eight plays were on the ground.

Greensboro (0-7, 0-5) went three-and-out on its opening possession. Both teams exchanged possessions. The Hawks took over with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

As the drive carried over to the second, Huntingdon moved 65 yards in 3:48 to double its lead to 14.

The Pride punted the ball on their ensuing drive. The Hawks took over at their own 12 and looked to put together another decent drive.

With a first and 10 at the Greensboro 31, Landon Cotney threw a pass towards the sideline but was picked off by Da'Shaun Wallace, who then returned the interception to the GC 46.

With 5:57 left on the first half clock, Greensboro put together its best drive so far. David Loughry II completed passes to Tegan Griggs, Cale Matthews and Tyler Penland to eventually move the ball to the Huntingdon 18. After a GC timeout with 10 seconds on the clock, Ben Mangungu attempted a 36-yard field goal.

The Hawks' Fred Flavors came off the edge and blocked the field goal attempt as the visitors eventually fell on the ball as time expired. Huntingdon led 14-0 at the break.

The Pride opened the second half with the ball and jump started the drive with a 37-yard run from Dalton Miller to the Hawks 23. GC moved the ball 10 more yards and setup a 30-yard field goal attempt for Mangungu. The freshman split the uprights to put Greensboro on the board, 14-3, with 12:17 on the clock.

Both teams had three-and-outs on their next drives until Huntingdon took over at GC 31 with 9:34 to go in the third. The Hawks covered 31 yards in two minutes as they scored their third touchdown of the game (21-3).

Greensboro had another field goal attempt blocked as Huntingdon looked to add to its lead. The visitors did just that as Cotney capped off an eight-play drive with a five-yard touchdown run to lead by 25 (28-3) with 23 seconds left in the third.

Loughry was intercepted on the second play of the ensuing drive to give the Hawks the ball back to start the fourth.

In the fourth, Huntingdon added to its lead with a 12-play, 65-yard drive that used up 7:21 of the clock before a pick-six with 57 seconds left in the game to win by 39 (42-3).

The Hawks gained 480 yards on the day compared to 147 for the Pride. Huntingdon also held advantage in time of possession, third-down and fourth-down conversions.

Greensboro travels to LaGrange College on Saturday, October 30. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
