GC and MBU Draw After Double Overtime

The Greensboro College women's soccer team battled Mary Baldwin in a USA South Athletic Conference showdown. Despite playing an extra 20 minutes, the Pride and the Fighting Squirrels tied, 1-1.

Mary Baldwin (8-5-2, 4-2-2) took an early lead with a goal in the third minute. From there, Greensboro (4-9-3, 2-4-2) controlled a majority of the possession and put three shots on goal but were not able to even the score by the half.

In the second half, the Pride picked up where they left off with controlling possession. The effort paid off in the 72nd minute when Svea Eckstrand crossed a ball into the box as Taylor Harrison put the ball into the back of the net to even the score at one.

GC had four more shots on goal including one that was headed to the top corner of the goal but Nyasia Hawkins redirected the ball into the crossbar to preserve the tie.

The first overtime was a replica of regulation as the Pride five shots on goal including back-to-back shots from Eckstrand but Hawkins made both saves from the ground. In the second overtime, both teams went back and forth but the final horn sounded for the 1-1 tie.

GC had 15 shots on goal compared to three for MBU while the visitors held advantage in corner kicks, 2-1.

Greensboro will honor its seniors on the final game of the regular season on Sunday, October 24. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
