The Greensboro College men's soccer team opened USA South Conference play against William Peace University at Pride Field. After falling behind, the Pride came back to beat the Pacers, 3-2.
Greensboro (5-6, 1-0) notched the first goal in the eighth minute as
William Curry scored his ninth goal of the season. Play between both sides evened out until the 15th minute.
William Peace (5-1, 0-1) tied the game at one. In the 30th minute, the Pacers took the lead off an own goal. The Pride had a chance in the 39th minute as
Jordy Briceno lined up a penalty kick. However, William Peace keeper, Jacob Smith, dove to his right and made the save.
In the second half, the Pacers kept the advantage until the 65th minute. Another penalty in the box gave GC another penalty shot.
Darli Mihindou stood over the ball and powered the ball past Smith to even the game at two.
Both sides had chances but were not able to capitalize until the 78th minute. After a quick touch off a corner kick,
Alan Linares crossed a ball into the box as
P.J. Kloska headed the ball to give the Pride a 3-2 lead.
WPU pressured in the offensive zone but the Pride fought off the effort for the one-goal win.
The Pacers put seven shots on goal while GC had six. The Pride held advantage in corner kicks, 9-4.
Greensboro hosts North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday, October 5. Start time is 7:00 p.m.
