Football Battles Brevard

The Greensboro College football team took on the Brevard College Tornados in a USA South matchup. The Pride fell to the Tornados, 27-7.

Greensboro (0-4, 0-2) received the opening kickoff and looked to take an early lead. David Loughry II found connected on his first two passes for a first down. Unfortunately, the drive seemed to stall but a running into the kicker penalty called against Brevard (2-3, 2-1) gave the Pride a first down.

GC marched the ball down to the Tornado 24 when it used a specialty play. Loughry II threw a backward pass to Cale Matthews who then found Trajan Weatherspoon open in the end zone for the score. Zach Allman's point after was successful as the Pride led 7-0 with 9:33 to go in the first quarter.

Both sides exchanged possessions through the remainder of the quarter has the horn sounded.

In the second, Brevard looked to get on the board with a 24-yard field goal but Jaden Henderson came off the edge and blocked the kick. Greensboro took over at the 20 but on the second play of the drive, Loughry's pass was intercepted at the 40.

The Tornados' six play drive was capped off by a Stamati Damalos 36-yard field goal to trail 7-3 at the 11:21 mark in the second. After a three-and-out by Greensboro, Brevard drove 54 yards in six plays to take a 10-7 lead.

Greensboro had another three-and-out as the Tornados looked to piece together another drive. However, Max Steele picked off the BC quarterback and gave the Pride the ball on the 50-yard line with 54 seconds to go in the half.

GC began to move the ball but on third-and-six, Loughry was intercepted on the 25 as Brevard's Tyler Harrison streaked up the sideline to score with four seconds on the clock. The Tornados held a 17-7 edge at the half.

The third had both teams record multiple possessions but were unsuccessful and the score remained a 10-point difference going into the fourth.

The Brevard drive that began late in the third saw four plays run in the fourth quarter that led to a touchdown. After a successful point after, BC led by 17 (24-7).

The Pride offensive struggle continued as they punted on their next drive. The Tornados added to their lead as a Damalos 23-yard field capped off a seven-play, 58-yard drive.

Greensboro tried to add more points to the board but the drive was futile as Brevard took over and ran the clock out to win by 20 points.

The Tornados out gained the Pride, 390-151 as the visitors had over 300 yards rushing on the afternoon.

GC travels to North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, October 9. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
