Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pride Shutout Knights

The Greensboro College men's soccer welcomed the Knights of Southern Virginia for a USA South Athletic Conference showdown. The Pride shutdown and shutout the Knights, 2-0.

Greensboro (7-6-1, 3-0-1) took early control of the game by dominating possession. The effort paid off in the 27th minute when Christian Thomas scored his first of the season off a cross from William Curry.

The Pride kept up the pressure until the halftime horn sounded. GC had five shots on goal compared to just one for Southern Virginia (3-10-0, 2-2-0).

The second half was very similar to the first with Greensboro not allowing the Knights any free room to work or time with the ball. In the 58th minute, Alan Linares drove the ball down the sideline and sent in a cross to the box.

The ball found its way to the foot of Darli Mihindou for the second goal of the game. SVU began to put a little pressure on the Pride and had an opportunity in the 90th minute.

A header by Danny Fietkau was on its way to the upper, left corner of the goal but Cristian Del Cid Portillo jumped up and deflected the ball over the goal to preserve the shutout.

GC held advantage in shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (9-3).

Greensboro travels to Pfeiffer University on Saturday, October 16 to face the Falcons. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
