ASHLAND, Va. – The Greensboro College split with the 16
th-ranked Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon College Saturday.
The Pride took the opening game by a 4-0 score before suffering an 11-3 loss in Game 2.
In the top of the second inning in Game 1,
Jordan Deaton gave the Pride a 1-0 lead when she hit the ball over the center-field fence for her first homerun of the season. After
Cheyanne Cox retired the Yellow Jackets in the bottom half, Greensboro added on to their lead in the third inning on a two-run homerun by Kiersten Doss.
With Greensboro holding on to the three-run lead,
Caroline Stanley singled up the middle in the fourth inning to score Macey Brewer for the game's final run.
Deaton finished the game with a team-leading two hits, while Stanley, Doss,
Courtney Fink,
Alexis Sox, and
Kassie Simmons each had one hit. Cox earned the victory in the pitching circle to move to 5-1 on the season.
In the second game, Randolph Macon took a one-run lead in the first inning before Greensboro struck for two runs in the top half of the third to take a one-run lead of their own. Simmons got the Pride on the board with a double to right field before coming in to score on a single to left center field.
However, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Pride 10-1 over the final 2 ½ innings to take the victory.
Simmons was credited with the loss in the pitching circle. Stanley and Sox both finished the game with a team-leading two hits.
The Pride will return to action Sunday when they travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to take part in the Virginia Wesleyan Classic. Greensboro will take on Bethany College at 10:30 a.m. before squaring off with the host Marlins at 12:30 p.m.
