Softball Splits Games At Virginia Wesleyan Classic

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team split a pair of games at the Virginia Wesleyan Classic Sunday.

The Pride defeated the Bison of Bethany (W.V.) by a 4-0 score before falling to the host Marlins, 4-0.

Against the Bison, Greensboro got on the board in the first inning when Kassie Simmons plated Caroline Stanley with a single through the left side of the infield.

After the game remained a one-run contest for the next three innings, the Pride plated three addition runs in the fifth inning to secure the four-run victory. Simmons once again got the scoring started with an RBI single to left field before Macy Brew and the Pride executed a double steal to make the score 3-0.

Later in the inning, Allyson Loy plated Simmons from second base for the game's final run with a single to right field.

In addition to her two RBI performance, Simmons picked up the pitching victory after striking out seven batters and only two hits allowed. Loy, Courtney Fink, and Simmons each had a team-leading two hits.

Following their victory against the Bison, Greensboro fell behind 1-0 against the nationally ranked Marlins in the first inning. Over the remainder of the game, the Marlins added three runs over the remainder of the contest to take the victory.

Stanley, Jordan Deaton, and Alexis Sox each had one hit in the game. Cheyanne Cox pitched all six innings and was credited with the loss.

The Pride will return to action Thursday when they host the Knights of St. Andrews University. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
