Phifer's Buzzer-Beater Layup Vaults Pride Men To 95-93 Victory Over Huntingdon

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Michael Phifer tallied a layup as time expired to lead the Pride men's basketball team past the Hawks of Huntingdon College Saturday 95-93.

In the first half, Greensboro came out of the gates hot from the field and opened an 11-4 lead with just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half before extending their lead to 21-8 on a Jacar Green three pointer just three minutes later.

Despite holding on to the 13-point lead, Greensboro saw their advantage dwindle down to five over the next six minutes before closing out the final 4:26 of the half on a 12-5 run to take a 50-38 lead into the break.

However, Huntingdon battled back over the first 13 minutes of the second half to take a 74-72 lead. Over the next six minutes, the two teams traded the lead back and forth before Keyford Langley hit a three-pointer with 1:23 on the clock to give the Pride a 93-90 lead.

After the Langley three, Huntingdon tied the game with 59 seconds on the clock on a three-pointer by James Harris. Following the Harris three, both teams turned the ball over one time to set Greensboro for the final possession on the game.

The Pride inbounded the ball into Langley at the top of the key before passing the ball off to Phifer, who drove the lane and laid the ball in as time expired to secure the victory.

Six players scored in double figures for the Pride as Eric Peaks Jr. led the way with 18 points, while Phifer finished with 16. Sean McCabe and Kristian Williams both chipped in 12 points and Matt Brown finished with eight points, give rebounds, and five blocks.

The Pride men will return to action Wednesday when they host the Cougars of Averett University. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
