LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team split a doubleheader with the Panthers of LaGrange College Saturday.
The Pride took the opening game by a 6-4 score before dropping the finale 11-4.
LaGrange took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1 before the Pride battled back to tie the game with a two-run fourth. Greensboro got their first run of the inning on a single by
Olivia Davidson before
Cassie Collins recorded an RBI groundout.
Following the two-run inning, Greensboro took the lead on an RBI groundout by
Kirsten Doss in the fifth before adding two more runs in the top half of the sixth.
Kassie Simmons hit a triple down the right-field line to plate
Macy Brewer before coming in to score on a
Caroline Stanley double.
With Pride holding on to a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning, LaGrange got two runs back before Greensboro secured the two-run victory with an RBI single by
Kailey Walker in the top half of the seventh inning.
Cheyanne Cox struck out 12 batters over seven innings and was credited with the victory.
Following their Game 1 victory, the Pride struck first with one run in the first inning of Game 2 before the Panthers used a two-run bottom half to jump out in front, 2-1.
Greensboro then responded back with three more runs in the second on a Walker home run to take a 4-2 lead.
However, LaGrange went on to score the game's final nine runs to take the victory.
Simmons pitched five innings and was credited with the loss, while
Jenna Endsley pitched one inning.
