LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team ran their win streak to six-games with a doubleheader sweep of Covenant College Friday.
Greensboro took the opening game of the doubleheader by a 6-3 score before winning the nightcap 12-6.
Game One
Greensboro took a one-run lead in the first inning on a
Kailey Walker ground out before
Hannah French hit a single through the right side in the second inning to score
Kirsten Doss and push the Pride advantage to 2-0.
Despite holding on to the two-run lead, Greensboro added two more runs in third inning to push their lead to four runs before Covenant pulled to within one with a three-run fourth. In the third inning,
Cassie Collins tallied an RBI single before
Cheyanne Cox placed a double down the left field line to plate Doss.
After the Scots pulled within one, Cox blasted a two-run home run in the seventh to give Greensboro the three-run victory.
In addition to her three RBI performance at the plate, Cox also earned the win in the pitching circle. Greensboro pounded out 11 hits in the victory as
Caroline Stanley, Collins, and French also had multiple hits.
Game Two
Much like the first game, Greensboro jumped on top early as they plated five runs in the first before Covenant got four runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Doss got the first RBI of the inning on a single up the middle before Collins placed a two RBI hit in the same spot. Following the Collins single,
Olivia Davidson joined the RBI parade with a single to center field.
Following the four-run inning by the Scots, Greensboro went on to plate two runs in each of the next three innings to take a 11-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
After Greensboro established the seven-run lead, Covenant scored the game's next two runs before
Jordan Deaton capped off the scoring with an RBI hit in the seventh.
The Pride finished the contest with 15 hits this time while
Kassie Simmons earned the win in the pitching circle.
