Late Heroics Lifts Pride Softball To Doubleheader Sweep of No.12 University of Lynchburg

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hannah King laced a walk-off RBI single into center field in the seventh inning of Game 2 to help lift the Greensboro College softball team to a two-game sweep of the nationally ranked Hornets of the University of Lynchburg Sunday.

Greensboro took the opening game by a 4-3 score before completing the sweep with a three-run seventh in Game 2.

In the first game, neither team was able to make their mark on the scoreboard until the bottom half of the fourth inning. With two runners on, Jordan Deaton hit a single up the middle before Olivia Davidson hit a three-run double to right-center field to score Alexis Sox, Deaton, and Allyson Loy to extend the lead to 4-0.

The score then remained the same until the seventh inning with the Hornets got a three-run homerun to pull within one, but Cheyanne Cox shut the door to record the victory as she finished the game with 10 strikeouts.

Following their Game 1 victory, the Pride found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning before Caroline Stanley plated Kirsten Doss with a hard single through the right side of the infield.

After Greensboro pulled to within one, the Hornets extended their lead back out to two runs in the top of the seventh before Greensboro came battling back. Doss led off the bottom half of the inning with a double to center field before advancing to third on a Cassie Collins single.

With runners on the corners and no outs, Stanley recorded another RBI to pull Greensboro back to within one before tying the game on a Hornets error. With the excitement of the tying the game resonating around the field, Kailey Walker laced a triple off of the left field fence before coming across to score the game-winning run on King's single.

Doss finished the game with a team-leading two hits, while Stanley had two RBIs. Kassie Simmons pitched the first 6.2 innings before giving way to Jenna Endsley, who finished the seventh inning and was credited with the victory.

The Pride softball team will return to action Friday when they travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. to take on the Scots of Covenant College. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
