LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team swept a doubleheader with the Wildcats of Randolph College Saturday.
Greensboro took the opening game by an 11-0 score, in five innings, before winning Game 2, 5-0.
In the first inning of Game 1, Greensboro got on the board on a
Kirsten Doss groundout that scored
Caroline Stanley before extending their lead to 5-0 with a four-run second. With the bases loaded,
Hannah King drew a walk to plate the first run of the inning before
Cheyanne Cox doubled to left field to score
Olivia Davidson and
Kailey Walker.
After King scored the final run of the inning, Greensboro retired the side in the bottom half before adding one run in the third inning and five runs in the fourth to help secure the victory.
Jordan Deaton and Walker both had two hits in the victory, while Walker also posted a team-leading three RBIs. Cox, who finished with two RBIs, picked up the win in the pitching circle after striking out 11 batters.
Following their big win in Game 1, the Pride jumped ahead early in Game 2 with a two-run second inning. After
Allyson Loy walked to lead off the inning, she stole second to get into scoring position before coming across the plate on an
Alexis Sox single up the middle.
As the inning progressed, Sox moved into scoring position herself on a single by
Cassie Collins single before coming across the plate on
Hannah French single.
Greensboro was then able to take their two-run lead into the fifth inning before scoring the game's final three runs to complete the two-game sweep. Sox recorded a two RBI double to left field before coming across the plate once again on a Collins single.
Kassie Simmons finished the game with 11 strikeouts and was credited with the win. Sox, Collins, and Deaton each had a team-leading two hits.
