GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ashley Free recorded 16 points as the Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated the Spirits of Salem College Wednesday, 79-58.
Salem scored the first basket of the first half before Greensboro went on a 14-0 run to take a 12-point lead with 5:33 showing on the clock. Free led the way during the run for Greensboro as she had five points while
Sabria Joseph, Destin Timberlake, and
Diajah Hickson combined for nine points.
Following the run, Salem was able to pull within eight after the first 10 minutes before closing out the second period on a 4-0 run to pull within six at the break.
Greensboro then quickly gained a 13-point lead in the third period after opening the first 4:37 on an 8-2 run. Free scored four of her 16 points during the run while
Katie Lewis hit a three-pointer. As the half continued, the Pride was able to establish their largest lead of the contest late in the fourth period before going on to secure the 21-point victory.
Timberlake joined Free in double figures scoring with 11 while Hickson finished with nine points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
