GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team fell to Mary Baldwin College Wednesday 79-76.
Greensboro opened the first period on a 9-4 run after
Katie Lewis,
Shaiajah Dailey, and
Diajah Hickson each hit a three pointer before battled back of the final six minute to take a 23-22 lead. Following the Squirrels run, Greensboro opened the second period on a 7-2 run to regain the lead on a layup by
Shai Robinson, but Mary Baldwin quickly retook the lead.
However, Greensboro was able to tie the game at 38 late in the period before going on a 9-3 run to go up by four. Over the final minute of the half, Mary Baldwin was then able to score five straight points to take a one-point lead of their own into the break.
After halftime, the two teams traded the lead nine times over the final two periods before the Squirrels scored the game-deciding three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining in the game, despite a last chance three-point attempt by the Pride.
Katie Lewis finished with a team-high 21 points, while Hickson and
Ashley Free combined for 30 points. In the loss, Greensboro also set a program record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 17.
