GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team pulled away late to top the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Tuesday in Hanes Gymnasium 86-69.
Greensboro held a 13-12 lead just six minutes into the first period before beginning to catch their stride from the field. Over the final 3:38 of the period, Greensboro was able to mount a 12-4 run, behind six points from
Nichelle Jeffries, to take a 25-16 lead into the second.
As the second period ensued, the Pride was able to extend their lead out to as many as 11 before Pfeiffer was able to close out the final 2:54 of the period on a 7-2 to pull back to within six.
Following the break, the two teams traded the lead back and forth in the third period before Greensboro once again broke the game open with 22-8 run over the first six minutes of the final period to help secure the victory.
Ashley Free finished with a team-leading 18 points while Jeffries and
Katie Lewis combined for 33 points.
Shai Robinson also finished in double figures with 12 points in just seven minutes on five-of-five shooting.
