ROANOKE, Va. – The Greensboro College volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 Roanoke College Maroon Classic Saturday.
The Pride fell to Bridgewater College 3-1 to open the day before falling in straight sets to the host Maroons to cap off the event.
In their match against Bridgewater, Greensboro dropped the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-12 before rallying back with a 25-22 win in Set 3 to extend the match. However, the Pride could not overcome a slow start in the fourth set, falling by a 25-19 score.
Hailey Stout and
Sarah Egbers both posted a team-leading 11 kills while
Katrina O'Neill added seven kills of her own.
Dixie Fulk finished with 20 assists and three service aces.
Following their match-up with the Eagles, Greensboro squared off with the Maroons of Roanoke College. Greensboro dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-16 before coming up just short in Set 3, 25-22.
Stout once again paced the Pride attack with nine kills.
Natalie Rosinski added six kills while Fulk and
Olivia Norris combined for 16 assists.
"I am proud of how the team played today," Head Coach
Kevin Troup said. "We competed against two very good and disciplined teams. We kept our energy up and made plays to stay in the match."
The Pride will return to action Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater College for a tri-match. Greensboro will take on Hollins University at 1 p.m. before closing out the day at 3 p.m. against the host Eagles.
