Volleyball Splits Saturday Tri-Match At Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Greensboro College volleyball team split a pair of matches at a tri-match hosted by Bridgewater College Saturday.

Greensboro defeated Hollins University in straight sets before falling to the host Eagles by a 3-0 mark.

Against Hollins, Greensboro held on to win the opening set by a 27-25 score before winning the next two sets by identical 25-22 scores. Sarah Egbers paced the Pride attack with 10 kills while Sarah Oakes and Hailey Stout combined for 13 kills. Stout also had a team-high 16 digs and Olivia Norris passed for 30 assists.

Following their win against Hollins, Greensboro came up short against Bridgewater as the Eagles won by sets of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-20. Egbers once again led the way will 11 kills while Addie Haywood had 14 digs.

"I was very pleased with the effort that was put forth by the team today," Head Coach Kevin Troup said. "We had a very slow start against a scrappy and athletic Hollins team in our first match.

"Against Bridgewater, we did a very good job of keeping them out of system for the most part. They were able to capitalize on our errors and go on a couple of runs at the end of the sets to pull out the victory."

The Pride will return to action Tuesday when they host the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College volleyball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
