GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jovan Cotton tailed two goals as the Greensboro College men's soccer team defeated the Pacers of William Peace University Saturday, to open USA South Athletic Conference play, 3-0.
Cotton struck for the first time in the 21
st minute collected a loose ball in the neutral zone and dribbled past three defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Following Cotton's first goal, Greensboro was awarded a penalty-kick and
Jordy Briceno went just below the crossbar to make the score 2-0.
Over the next 35 minutes, neither team was able to find the back of the net before
Alexander Sargeant played an outstanding ball to Cotton just atop the 18-yard box. Following one touch, Cotton blasted it by the Pacers keep to cap off the scoring and helped close out the three-goal victory.
"It was a very good team performance by the boys against a good William Peace team," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "I thought the boys took their chances better today and dealt with adversity. They have been practicing at a high level everyday and pushing each other. It's great for them to be rewarded with a good performance.
"We have a quick turn around with an away conference game at Pfeiffer University."
