FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to the Monarchs of Methodist University Saturday in a USA South Athletic Conference showdown 14-11.
Michael Meley gave Greensboro a one-goal lead just one minute into the first period before the Monarchs ran off four goals over the next nine minutes to take a 4-1 lead.
Following the Methodist run,
Spencer Kontoulas scored on a man-up opportunity to pull the Pride to within two goals heading into the second period.
The Monarchs then traded goals with the Pride over the first four minutes before
Michael Kiley struck for two goals to make the score 6-5 in favor of the Monarchs.
After Kiley notched his two goals, Methodist was able to get one final goal in the period to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
Methodist then added to their lead just over two minutes into the third period before
Davis Miller and Kontoulas scored to pull the Pride back to within one.
However, the Monarchs were able to outscore the Pride 6-4 over the final 21 minutes of play to secure the three-goal victory.
Patrick Bell, Miller,
Dominic Scali, and Michael Selhorst combined for the Pride's final four goals.
Kyler Ishler took the loss in goal for Greensboro despite recording nine saves.
