GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split their final doubleheader of the regular season against the Quakers of Guilford College Wednesday.
Greensboro took the opening game by a 10-11 score before dropping the finale 9-1.
Game One
Greensboro jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning as
Hanna Stackhouse and
Daisy Martin had RBI singles, while
Jordan Deaton hit her second grand slam of the season.
The Pride then added on to their lead with one run in the second inning before Guilford scored the game's next six runs to pull within one run heading into the bottom half of the fifth.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Greensboro loaded the bases once again for Deaton and she did not cool down at the plate as she smashed yet another grand slam of the scoreboard in right center field to make the score 11-6.
Despite holding on to the five-run lead, Guilford pulled to within one over the next two innings before
Maddy Wetherholt shut the door to secure the one-run victory.
Deaton finished with 8 RBIs in the game while going two-for-three at the plate. Stackhouse finished with a team-high three hits and
Jasmine Worthy had two hits.
Game Two
Guilford took a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning before Greensboro got one run back in the bottom half after Worthy came across the plate on a ground out by
Alexis Newman.
However, the Quakers scored seven more runs over the next six innings to take the eight-run victory.
Caroline Stanley, Deaton, and
Cassie Collins each had one hit in the game.
