WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split the opening two games of a best-of-three series with the Spirits of Salem College Thursday to open the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.
Greensboro took the opening game by a 2-1 score before dropping Game 2 in nine innings 3-2.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on double by
Hanna Stackhouse before adding on to their lead in the third inning on another RBI hit by Stackhouse.
The Pride then held on to their two-run lead until the seventh when Salem plated one Run before
Maddy Wetherholt shut the door to give Greensboro a one-game lead in the series.
Greensboro was able to ride their momentum into Game 2 as
Caroline Stanley scored the game's first run in the first inning before Stackhouse tallied yet another RBI double to push the Greensboro lead to 2-0.
However, Salem was able to tie the game in the seventh before pushing across the game-winning run in the ninth.
The Pride and the Spirits will play the decisive third game of the series at 1 p.m. Saturday with the winner moving on the remainder of the conference tournament in LaGrange, Ga.
