Softball Records Doubleheader Sweep of Mary Baldwin in USA South Action

Greensboro, N.C. – The Greensboro College Softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep of Mary Baldwin University Wednesday.

Greensboro took the opening game 2-1 before taking the nightcap in shutout fashion 3-0.

Game 1
After a stalemate through the first four innings, the Squirrels grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth off a Courtney Back homer to left center field.

However, the Pride would immediately respond with a score of their own in the bottom of the fifth when a Jasmine Worthy bunt plated Maddy Wetherholt, tying the game.

In the bottom of the Seventh, Daisy Martin singled on a groundball to the shortstop, scoring Allyson Loy for the game winning run.

Worthy finished with a game-high two hits, while Wetherholt was credited with the win.

GAME 2
Megan Gerdeman got Greensboro on board for the first time in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple to left center field before Caroline Stanley added to the lead with RBI single to third.

With Greensboro holding on to the two-run advantage, Lilly Baucom added to the lead with a RBI single to center field.

The Fighting Squirrels then failed to capitalize on a bases loaded opportunity as Kaley Hines struck out swinging to neutralize the threat and end the top half of the sixth inning.

Greensboro then went on to take the three-run victory behind an impressive pitching performance by Cheyanne Cox, who recorded 12 strikeouts to earn the win.

Greensboro will return to action Friday when they travel to take on Averett University. Those games were moved up from Saturday due to the threat of inclement weather.
