Softball Take Game One Against Averett 11-4, While Game Two Suspended Due To Weather

DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team started their final USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season Friday when they traveled to Averett University.

Greensboro took the opening game by an 11-4 score before play was suspended in the top half of the third inning of Game 2 with Averett holding a 2-0 lead.

Game One
Greensboro struck for five runs in the top half of the second inning before the Cougars pulled two within three runs with a two-run bottom half.

The Pride got the scoring started when Lilly Baucom hit a RBI single up the middle before Kelsey Swaim singled through the right side to make the score 2-0.

Following the Swaim single, Greensboro scored three runs on a pair of errors by the Cougars.

The score then remained the same until the fifth when Averett scored one run on a passed ball before Greensboro tacked on three-runs in the sixth inning to make the score 8-3.

After Greensboro extended their lead back out to five runs, Averett got one run back in the bottom of the inning but Greensboro put the game away in the top of the seventh when Hanna Stackhouse hit a bases loaded double down the left field line, scoring Caroline Stanley, Jasmine Worthy, and Swaim.

Swaim paced the Greensboro offensive attack with four hits on the day, while Worthy had two hits. Maddy Wetherholt earned the complete game victory in the pitching circle and recorded seven strikeouts.
