LYNCHBURG, Va. – Spencer Kontoulas scored four goals as the Greensboro College men's lacrosse team coasted past the Wildcats of Randolph College Wednesday 20-4.
Kontoulas gave Greensboro a one-goal lead four minutes into the opening period before Randolph was able to tie the score just 10 seconds later.
Following the Wildcats goal,
Davis Miller found the back of the net for the first time in the game to give Greensboro a 2-1 before Phillip Gerber was able to extend the lead even more with 7:50 showing on the first period clock.
The Pride and the Wildcats then traded goals over the final five minutes of the period to send the game into the second with Greensboro on top 4-2.
After
Austin Bane closed out the first period scoring, Greensboro broke the game wide open in the second after outscoring Randolph 7-0 to take a 11-2 lead into halftime.
Michael Kiley, Kontoulas, Miller,
Justin Matthews, and
Dominic Scali each scored at least one goal for the Pride during the period.
Over the final 30 minutes of play, Greensboro continued to apply pressure on the Wildcats and outscored them 9-2 to secure the 16-goal victory.
"This was a good team win today and hopefully we can ride this momentum into our second conference game of the season this weekend," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "We need to be road warriors for these next four games.
"I am proud of our guys for putting together a full 60 minutes tonight."
Kyle Ishler was credited with the win in goal for Greensboro, while
Cody Hammock tallied four saves in just over 12 minutes of action.
