GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite a goal by
Davis Miller with 48 seconds in regulation to tie the game, the Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to the Hawks of Huntingdon College Sunday 12-11.
Michael Kiley took a feed from
Michael Halladay just 1:46 into the opening period and found the back of the net to give Greensboro a 1-0 lead before the Hawks struck one minute later to tie the game.
Greensboro was then able to strike once again in the period as Miller scored off an assist from Kiley to make the score 2-1 but Huntingdon was able to send the game into the second period tied at two.
Over the first 7:30 over the period, Greensboro got goals from
Michael Sehlhorst, Miller and
Spencer Kontoulas, while the Hawks scored one goal, to send Greensboro into the break with a 5-2 lead.
However, Huntingdon opened the third period on a 5-0 run to take a 8-5 lead before Greensboro responded back with goals by
Michael Meley,
Ethan Pierce, and Kontoulas to even the score at eight heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Huntingdon then scored two straight goals before
Michael Meley scored two times over a one-minute span to tie the game once again with 3:18 on the clock.
The scored remained tied for the next 1:15 before Huntingdon briefly regained a one-goal advantage before Miller took a feed from Kiley and tucked it into the bottom right corner of the goal to send the game into overtime.
However, Huntingdon was able to capitalize on a Greensboro penalty early in the overtime to secure the one-goal victory.
Kyle Ishler took the loss in goal despite recording 10 saves while
Justin Matthews paced the Pride defense with three caused turnovers and four groundballs.
