HAMPTON, Va. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to the Pirates of Hampton University Saturday 14-6.
Hampton scored the first three goals of the game before
Tommy Barrett and
Philip Gerber found the back to the net to pull Greensboro to within one with 5:35 remaining in the first period.
The Pirates then went on to take a 5-2 lead into the second period but
Michael Meley scored his first goal of the afternoon with 8:11 on the clock to make the score 5-3.
Despite pulling back to within two, Hampton went on to outscore the Pride 3-1 over the final five minutes of the half to take an 8-4 lead into the break.
Hampton quickly added to their lead in the third before
Michael Halladay found the back of the net to make the score 9-5.
However, Hampton was able to outscore Greensboro 5-1 over the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
"Today's game was very disappointing," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "We continue to be our own worst enemy.
"Hats off to Hampton for playing hard and getting the win. We will address our mistakes and prepare for our first conference game Saturday."
Meley finished with a team-high three goals on the afternoon while
Kyle Ishler took the loss in goal.
