GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell in overtime to Westminster College Monday in overtime 12-11.
Westminster scored the game's first goal in the second minute before
Davis Miller found the back of the net six minutes later after receiving a feed from
Michael Meley to tie the game.
Westminster then scored the final three goals of period to take a 4-1 in to the second.
After Westminster added to their lead early in the period, Greensboro struck for four goals to tie the game before Westminster took a 6-5 lead into the half.
Spencer Kontoulas accounted for three of the Pride's goals while Miller found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity.
Following the break,
Dominic Scali, Meley, and Miller were able to score to give Greensboro an 8-6 lead before Westminster pulled to within one with 32 seconds showing on the clock.
In the fourth, Greensboro was able to open up an 11-8 lead before Westminster scored three goals over the final five minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime.
After neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities early in the extra segment, Westminster found the game winning goal with 14 seconds on the clock.
"It's tough to let a late lead slip away," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "When we wanted to executed and play hard, we found success.
"When we turned against ourselves and didn't have all the pieces working, we crumbled. On to the next one."
Kyle Ishler took the loss in goal for Greensboro despite recording 13 saves.
