GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team saw a ninth inning lead slip away as they fell to the Quakers of Guilford College Tuesday 5-3.
The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a
Noah Walker infield single before Guilford scored two runs in the top half of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
However, the Pride was able to tie the game in the bottom half when
Tyler Price came across to score on a
Cameron Peters double to right center field.
Greensboro then regained a one-run lead in the seventh inning when Peters tallied a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring
Blake Carroll.
The Pride was able to hold their advantage until the ninth when Guilford scored the game's final three runs to take the two-run victory.
"We just were not able to execute when we needed it the most," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "Guilford capitalized on their chances which allowed them to win the game."
Peters finished with a team-leading two hits and two RBI while Carroll,
Hunter Fleming, and Walker each had one hit.
Eli Moravick pitched 7 1/3 solid innings on the mound but did not factor into the decision.
Tyler Watson gave up three runs in relief of Moravick and was credited with the loss.
The Pride will return to action Friday when the open a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series at North Carolina Wesleyan College. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
