DECATUR, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of the Scotties of Agnes Scott Friday.
Greensboro won the opening game by a 3-0 score before taking the nightcap by a 9-2 mark.
Game One
Greensboro got on the board quickly in the first inning as
Caroline Stanley, who was the second batter of the game, hit an inside the park home run to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the fifth inning when
Jordan Deaton continued her RBI string as she plated Stanley with a single down the left field line.
Greensboro then tacked on the game's final run in the seventh inning when Stanley scored for a third time on a
Hanna Stackhouse double to left center field.
The Pride out hit the Scotties by an 11-3 mark as Stanley and
Allyson Loy had three hits apiece. Stackhouse finished with two hits while
Jasmine Worthy, Deaton, and
Regan Lockwood had one hit each.
Kelsey Swaim pitched the first four innings to secure her first win of the season and
Cheyanne Cox picked up her first save after pitching the final three innings.
Game Two
Agnes Scott held a 2-0 lead through the first four innings before Greensboro broke the game open with a seven-run fifth.
Maddy Wetherholt got Greensboro on the board with a triple to right field before Stackhouse tallied a two-RBI single.
As the inning continued, Deaton hit a two-RBI double to right center while
Daisy Martin also had a RBI hit.
Greensboro then added to their lead in the sixth when Loy place a RBI double down the leftfield line before coming in to score the game's final run on a Cox sacrifice fly to center field.
Wetherholt earned her second win of the season after striking out five batters over seven innings while only surrendering one walk.
Stanley once again paced the Greensboro offense with three hits in four trips to the plate while Wetherholt went three-for-three. Loy, Stackhouse, Deaton, Martin, and
Macy Brewer had one hit apiece.
The Pride will return to action Saturday when they open play at the Birmingham-Southern Spring Classic. Greensboro will take on Mount St. Joseph University at 10 a.m. (CT) before play the host at 12 p.m. (CT).
