FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team dropped a road contest against the Monarchs of Methodist University Tuesday 84-75.
Methodist opened the game up on a 8-0 run before Greensboro was able to pull within six with 12:04 on the clock as
Carmoni Marks hit a pair of three-pointers to make the score 20-14.
Just four minutes later, the Monarchs were able to extend their lead out to 25-14 before Greensboro came storming back to within three behind the hot shooting by
Michael Phifer and Greyson College.
Phifer got the 8-0 run started with an old-fashion three-point play before Collins hit from the top of the key.
Following the three-point shot, Collins was able to record a steal and lay the ball off the glass to make the score 25-22.
Once Greensboro pulled to within the three-point margin, Methodist was able to extend their lead back out to eight with 3:55.
Collins then fueled a 9-2 run with seven points over the final three minutes of the half to pull the Pride to within 35-34.
However, the Monarchs took a 38-34 lead into the break.
After trading baskets over the first 1:45 of the second, Greensboro was able to take their first lead of the ballgame at 41-40 following another three-pointer by
Keyford Langley.
Greensboro was then able to extend their lead out to four on their next possession but the Monarchs used a 6-0 run over a two-minute span to regain the lead at 46-44.
Over the next five minutes, Greensboro was able to stay within two before Methodist used a 8-0 run to regain their double digit lead at 66-56.
As time began to run out, the Pride was able to pull back within five points one two separate occasions but Methodist was able to hold on for the nine-point victory.
"We battled but in the end we just could not come up with stops," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "I am proud of the way our kids fought but it was just unfortunate that we could not overcome some of our weaknesses."
Marks finished with a team-leading 18 points and seven rebounds while Langley and Collins each finished with 16 points.
The Pride men will return to action Friday when they travel to take on the Lions of Piedmont College. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
