GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team fell to the Scots of Covenant College in overtime Friday 3-2.
Covenant took a 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute and was able to hold that margin until the 64
th minute when
Darli Mihindou took advantage of loose ball and tucked into the bottom corner of the goal to tie the game.
Just 17 minutes later, Mihindou struck once again off an assist from
Jordy Briceno to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Pride. However, Covenant took advantage of a free-kick from 30 yards out and was able to tie the game and send the game into overtime.
At the start of the overtime period, Greensboro's
William Curry was able to get a shot off in the first 30 second but Paul Lemay made a great save for the Scots to keep the game going. Just over a minute later, Covenant scored off of a set piece to take the one-goal victory.
In addition to the two goals by Mihindou, Briceno finished with two assists on the afternoon.
Remy Brezault took the loss in goal despite stopping four shots.
"It's disappointing to come away without a result today," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. " I thought the boys as whole possessed the ball well for a large portion of the game and created very good chances. We need to be a little more disciplined as a team defensively and see plays thru.
"It's a quick turn around and we will learn and get better from today's result."
The Pride men will return to action Sunday when they host the Scots of Maryville College to wrap up the 2019 regular season. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
