LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Greensboro College football team fell to the Panthers of LaGrange College Saturday 40-23.
LaGrange took a 6-0 lead with 12:24 showing on the first quarter clock before
Zac Ellison connected on a 28-yard field goal just six minutes later to pull the Pride within three.
Following the Greensboro field goal, the Pride defense was able to force a Panthers fumble and
Taiwan Thompkins Jr. pounced on the loose ball to give the Pride a first down on the LaGrange 32-yard line. Greensboro then used a 6-play drive to take a 10-6 lead following a
Earl Green III four-yard run up the middle and a Ellison extra point.
After LaGrange got the ball back,
Ryan Wahl recorded his first interception of the season for the Pride's second straight takeaway. Greensboro was once again able to capitalize on the opportunity as
David Loughry II connected with
Zach Atkinson from 24-yards out to extend the Pride advantage to 11 points.
However, LaGrange went on to score the game's next 34 points to take a 40-17 lead late in the third quarter.
Greensboro was then able to score the game's final points with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game after Green III rushed into the end zone for the second time.
"I think this was the best collective game we have put together during my time here," Head Coach
Greg Crum said. "The guys put up a great fight for four quarters and they never stopped. There was many players that performed very well, even some who were battling through injuries.
Loughry finished with 173 yards passing and one touchdown. Wahl, who recorded the interception early in the game, finished with a team leading 48 yards receiving.
Jeremiah Speed had 15 total tackles to go along with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
