Strong Performance Comes Up Short As Pride Men Fall To Bishops

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite a career high 31 points by Michael Phifer, the Greensboro College men's basketball team suffered a 108-92 setback against the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College Wednesday.

With the score tied at 10 with 16:52 showing on the first half clock, Keyford Langley connected from long range to give Greensboro a 13-10 lead.

The Pride was then able to maintain their narrow lead over the next two minutes of action before the Battling Bishops strung together a 16-4 run to establish a 30-20 lead with exactly 10 minutes to play in the half.

Despite facing the 10-point deficit, Greensboro did not back away for the Bishops.

The Pride responded with a 10-0 of their own to tie the game for a fourth time a 30 with 8:13 on the clock. During the run, Langley tallied four points while Phifer and Carmoni Marks combined for six points.

However, North Carolina Wesleyan was able to pull away over the final eight minutes to take a 55-45 lead into halftime.

Over the first 2:01 of the second half, the Pride began to connect on the offensive end and quickly pulled back to within three at 57-54, following a 9-2 run.

Eric Peaks Jr., who finished with 18 points, sparked the run with five points.

Despite a continuous hard effort, Greensboro was unable to get any closer for the remainder of the contest and fell by the 16-point margin.

"We had a good effort tonight and showed a lot of intensity, but we just were not able to come away with the win," Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. "I am really proud of our kids as they continue to be very resilient on the court.

"We have to build and grow upon our effort tonight as we hit the road for two conference games this weekend."

Langley (20) and Marks (15) joined Peaks and Phifer in double figures on the day. Langley also passed for a game-high 10 assists to tally his first double double of the season.

The Pride men will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when they kick off a three-game USA South road trip at LaGrange College. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensboro.edu.
