Woods' Double Double Helps Propel Pride Women Past Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – A'Liyah Woods recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College Wednesday 77-65.

The Bishops held a 5-2 lead three minutes into the first period before Lauren Jenkins converted an old fashion three-point play to tie the game.

The three-point play was the start of a 12-0 run that helped Greensboro establish a 14-5 lead with 3:45 on the clock.

As the run progressed, Nichelle Jeffries hit a long three-pointer while Katie Lewis and Sabria Joseph combined for six points.

Following the run, Greensboro was able to take a 19-9 lead into the second period before quickly pushing their lead to 12 on a Woods layup.

The Bishops then battled back to within six (23-17) before Greensboro used a 12-2 run to take their largest lead of the half a 35-19 on a Jenkins layup.

As the time began to run down in the period, Greensboro was able to maintain their double digit lead and took a 39-25 lead into the break.

The two teams then traded baskets over the entire third period as Greensboro entered the final 10 minutes with a 60-46 lead before going on to win by the 12-point margin.

"This was a very big road win for us tonight," Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. "We were able to beat a team that we needed to beat as they beat us earlier in the season.

"It was a total team effort as several players had a good game and was able to pick up those that struggled."

Joseph, who went 6-of-9 from the field, posted a game-high 14 points while Jeffries finished with 11. Ashley Free and Jenkins each had 10 points.

The Pride women will return to action at 3 p.m. Sunday when they host Regent University. For more information on Greensboro College women's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
