ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – A'Liyah Woods recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College Wednesday 77-65.
The Bishops held a 5-2 lead three minutes into the first period before
Lauren Jenkins converted an old fashion three-point play to tie the game.
The three-point play was the start of a 12-0 run that helped Greensboro establish a 14-5 lead with 3:45 on the clock.
As the run progressed,
Nichelle Jeffries hit a long three-pointer while
Katie Lewis and
Sabria Joseph combined for six points.
Following the run, Greensboro was able to take a 19-9 lead into the second period before quickly pushing their lead to 12 on a Woods layup.
The Bishops then battled back to within six (23-17) before Greensboro used a 12-2 run to take their largest lead of the half a 35-19 on a Jenkins layup.
As the time began to run down in the period, Greensboro was able to maintain their double digit lead and took a 39-25 lead into the break.
The two teams then traded baskets over the entire third period as Greensboro entered the final 10 minutes with a 60-46 lead before going on to win by the 12-point margin.
"This was a very big road win for us tonight," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "We were able to beat a team that we needed to beat as they beat us earlier in the season.
"It was a total team effort as several players had a good game and was able to pick up those that struggled."
Joseph, who went 6-of-9 from the field, posted a game-high 14 points while Jeffries finished with 11.
Ashley Free and Jenkins each had 10 points.
