MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Keyford Langley hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining in overtime as the Greensboro College men's basketball team defeated the Hawks of Huntingdon College, 98-96.
With the Hawks leading 10-6 with 16:17 showing on the clock, Langley connected on back-to-back three-point attempts on consecutive possessions to give Greensboro a 12-7 lead.
The Pride then maintained at least a four-point advantage for the next 10 minutes before
Michael Phifer tallied a layup to give Greensboro a 33-23 lead with 5:59 showing on the clock.
Huntingdon would then pull to within three over the final minutes of the half but Langley tallied a layup as time expired in the half to give Greensboro a 41-36 lead at the break.
In the second half, Greensboro was able to extend their lead to 12 with 13:01 on the clock but Huntingdon battled back over the next nine minutes to take the lead for the first time since the first half at 75-74.
Over the final two minutes, the two teams traded the lead back and forth before Huntingdon recorded a layup with 13 seconds remaining to send the game into the extra segment.
Greyson Collins gave Greensboro an 85-83 lead on the Pride's first possession before the Hawks tied the game once again.
On the ensuing possession, Collins hit from three-point range to give Greensboro an 88-85 lead.
Greensboro was able to maintain the lead until BJ Baker hit a three-pointer to give the Hawks a 96-95 lead with 58 seconds left, setting up the game winning shot opportunity for Langley.
Following a timeout,
Carmoni Marks tallied an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Langley who drained the big shot for the victory.
"I am really proud of our players and staff today," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "It was a hard fought victory.
"We need to take today's outcome and build upon it."
Langley finished with 17 points and three assists on the day while Collins tallied a game-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Marks finished with 20 points and a game-high eight assists.
